Jon Sterckx
Jon Sterckx is a versatile percussionist with 30+ years playing experience. He studied tabla in the UK and in India between 1994 – 2006.
Jon has worked with a wide range of musical styles and with various bands and groups including fusion duo Taaliqa, world fusion group Dhani, Indian music duo Samswara and Balkan Folktronica group Arhai.
Jon is most known for his solo multi-percussion live sampling project, Drumscapes, which he has performed twice at the global TED events, at WOMAD Festival & at most of the UK’s major world music events. Jon’s work has been featured by music software company Ableton, and he has been commissioned to provide content for music creation software company Bandlab. Jon has also collaborated with dance, movement and theatre performances.
As a session musician Jon has played & recorded for composers and musicians around the globe, including 2x Grammy winning composer Christopher Tin, Grammy nominated producer Arun Shenoy & BBC Folk Award winners Phil Henry & Hannah Martin.
As an educator, Jon was an Associate Lecturer at University of Plymouth between 2003-2017 and has delivered tuition and workshops at schools, colleges & universities for over 20 years.
